Philosophy
The National Training
Center Research Review Committee is dedicated to supporting
and contributing
to the diverse
research efforts of the medical community that exists within,
and is affiliated with, the South Lake Hospital Campus. The Research
Review Committee is committed to serving the needs of both our
local community and athletes from around the world. Our focus
is
on providing timely, useful information that will positively
impact the lives of those we touch.
Purpose
The purpose of the
National Training Center Research Review Committee is to facilitate
quality research
opportunities
involving our South Lake Hospital Campus. The focus of the committee
is on reviewing study safety, design, informed consent, scientific
merit, relevance to the medical and surrounding communities, to
generate support for further research, and to provide educational
and professional opportunities to our medical community through
various endeavors. The protection of human subjects and Patient
Health Information (PHI) is of utmost concern. With this in mind,
the National Training Center Research Review Committee is positioned
to be a steward for the Orlando Regional Healthcare Institutional
Review Board (IRB).
Research Opportunities
Research
opportunities are limitless at the National Training Center.
With a myriad
of athletes from
all over the world representing a wide variety of sports training
year-round on our campus, and with the vast population living in
our region, research ideas are constantly evolving. Collaborative
and partnership opportunities are encouraged. Undergraduate and
Master's interns, as well as pre/post-Doctoral students should
contact us to explore assistantship and fellowship opportunities.
Medical students are encouraged to contact us for
research placements.

Meetings
All investigators wanting to perform research must attend the monthly Principal
Investigator Education Seminar. Starting in June, 2005, the PI Seminar
will be held the first Wednesday of every month at 8:00am. These meetings
occur in Education Classroom B at the National Training Center. Information
pertinent to research on our campus, the research process, and proper documentation
is discussed to ensure a quality research project. Our Research Review
Committee meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 10:00am. Meetings are
held in the SkyTop conference Room at South Lake Hospital. Please contact
Dr. Cummings to reserve your spot prior to the Principal Investigators’ Education
Seminar. Appointments to appear before the Research Review Committee will
be contingent upon the date your research packet is submitted. You will
be notified accordingly.
